The arrival of Covid-19 has overturned many of our habits, introducing some that we would never have considered. One among many? The use of the mask.
In fact, by wearing it day after day, many have started to notice that the mask has some side effects on our skin as it could become a breeding ground for the appearance of the most varied skin problems.
Dermatologist experts have coined the term “maskne” from the combination of mask , which in English means mask, and acne to indicate the occurrence or worsening of a series of skin problems in association with the use of masks.
Specifically, the appearance of comedones, small papules and peeling of the skin as well as redness and itching in the areas covered by the mask and, in predisposed people, the appearance of acne eruptions were observed.
As for reactive and sensitive skin, on the areas of the face where the mask rests, irritation, skin rashes and minor abrasions are possible.
But what are the main causes of maskne?
- Constant friction of the mask against the face;
- Humidity resulting from breathing;
- Overgrowth of bacteria and/or yeast.
We at BIOAPTA suggest some tips to follow to prevent mask acne:
- Change your mask often and use a new one;
- Cleanse thoroughly every day: apply Aptaclean cleansing milk to your face and neck using circular movements to remove excess sebum and impurities.
- Complete the cleansing with our tonic Aptatonic using a cotton pad;
- At this point all that remains is to apply a light layer of Aptaderm , which will nourish the skin and protect it by creating a barrier effect.
- Avoid makeup: Foundation is not necessary! It will clog your pores even more.
- Do not squeeze, scratch or continuously touch the skin;
By following these simple tips we could get rid of this annoying Maskne!
